We present the first Master’s thesis developed within the POWER project. Entitled “The Impact of Gender on Companies’ Environmental Performance”, it was written by Catarina Salgado Silva Pardete Alves and under the scientific supervision of Maria João Guedes.

Adopting a different analytical angle from other academic works that focus on the relationship between the composition of boards of directors and the financial performance of companies, this dissertation examines the impact of gender diversity on environmental performance as a central vector of social responsibility in terms of corporate strategy. The results stem from a sample of 297 EU and UK companies, using data on board composition and environmental performance indicators between 2003 and 2021.
