We present the first master’s dissertation developed under the POWER Project, entitled “O Impacto do Género na Performance Ambiental das Empresas”, written by Catarina Salgado Silva Pardete Alves and under the scientific supervision of Maria João Guedes.
Adopting a different angle of analysis from other academic works, which mostly focus on the relationship between the composition of Boards of Directors and the financial performance of companies, this dissertation explores the effects of gender diversity on environmental performance as an important vector of social responsibility in terms of corporate strategies. The results were obtained from a sample of 297 companies based in the EU and the UK, based on data on board composition and environmental performance indicators for the period between 2003 and 2021.
